Spelling

Your child will have weekly spelling list. The list will consist of ten spelling words; six which will have the blend or chunk that we are working on in reading for the week, two spelling words will be sight words for the week, and 2 review words. Your child will also have a sentence to write on their spelling test. The sentence will contain words from the weekly list. Your child will have to remember to capitalize the first letter and end their sentence with punctuation.

We send home a list of spelling words on Monday with our weekly parent letter. This is for your records. We will also write our spelling list in our planners, but sometimes they are not perfectly legible.

We also have TWO spelling lists. We will have a regular list and a challenge list. Your child will take a spelling pretest on Monday. If they get all of their weekly spelling words correct your child will work on the challenge list for the week. If your child does not get all of the spelling words correct they will be on the regular list. We do ask that you do not study the spelling words before the test. The reason we are providing a challenge-spelling list is the challenge students who already know the weekly words.
