Winter Reading Ideas from Mrs. Denny!

Everyday is a great day to read, but during these cold, dreary months, there is nothing better than curling up with a good book and reading with your child!

Here are some tips for reading at home with your children:
  • Keep books in sight and handy as much as possible!
  • Explore different authors, series and genres. Some kids prefer non-fiction while others prefer fiction. When your child shows interest in a particular book, try to find other books written by the same author or books of the same genre or topic.
  • Read TO your child (even if he or she is already a fluent reader!).
  • Read WITH your child. Take turns reading chapters, pages, sentences, or words.
  • TALK about the book
    • I wonder why....
    • This character/ setting/ story reminds me of ______ because...…..
    • This book is similar to/ different than _______
    • I wonder what will happen next....
    • My favorite part was when........
    • What if.......
  • Finally, ENJOY the time spent together bonding over a good book!

Happy Reading!
